Secrets you need to know before hiring a wedding videographer

Wedding planning takes effort. Effort and a lot of time!

With that said, it’s a relief to hear that there are certain areas where you don’t need to allocate much time and organisation in the planning stage. Phew!

One of the perks of hiring a videographer is that once you’ve pre-agreed your video style and a few other details before your big day, there’ll be no other preparation before your wedding, or management on the actual day either. Your videographer knows exactly what needs to be done, so you can forget about it, assured it’s in hand.

However, there are a few things that we think you may find useful to know:

Lighting + Timing

If you want very particular hues of say blue or pink throughout your wedding video, then you should discuss this early on with your videographer, so they know the best times of day to get the footage you want.

For instance, if you looking for a dark and dreamy affect then depending on whether your venue and the time of the year are reflective of this, your videographer may need to plan ahead. These guys have skill in shooting and editing for sure, but they will need a heads up before the game begins.

Hostess with the most-ess

Unlike your photographer, our videographer won’t need to speak to you very often or arrange you and your guests for poses etc. on your big day. Whilst still very present, your videographer will be silently floating around in the background. You’ll barely even notice them, as they capture all the natural candid moments throughout the day.

The run up

Footage taken whilst you are getting ready will be some of your favorite moments to watch later. Trust us, you will be really grateful to have allowed your videographer in the room during this stage of the day. These snippets of excitement, fun and prettiness with your loved ones involved will be some of your most valuable parts of the video.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail

Remember to prepare some food and hydration points throughout the day for anyone you have ‘working for you’. Your wedding day is going to be a long day! Allocate specific times for them to refuel! They will be grateful and you will reap the benefits in the long run!

Remember to charm, as well as dazzle

Unlike your photos, your video is about personality. Of course you want to look good for both, but with video you really need to show your charm at it’s best. Remember to be yourself, have fun and try to forget the cameraman in the room. The more natural you are, the better your video will be. No one is going to appreciate you being all ‘wooden’ on your big day. So relax, and ENJOY!

Hopefully you’ll now feel a little more confident about your wedding videography expertise. If you’re looking for a videographer or photographer, or both, our team of creatives tick all the boxes. Drop us an email at welcome@5star to find out more about our wedding packages.
