Don’t forget these tips when posing for your wedding photos

Wedding photography is one of the most important aspects of your big day!

…And of course, you want those photos to WOW, don’t you?

Your photographer may be booked and you may have agreed every detail of what is and isn’t to be shot on the big day, but have you prepped yourself!?

1. Listen to your photographer

Okay, so this sounds obvious doesn’t it? But, when you’re caught up in the moment with family and friends, it’s sometimes easy to forget that you’ve hired your wedding photographer to do a job. And a good job!

You photographer knows the drill, so take their word for it and follow their lead. Your photographer will know exactly how to get the best out of you and your guests, and will know when and where to take the photos location and lighting. Pre-plan everything before the day with your photographer and then let them take the lead. Don’t waste a single precious moment on the day trying to arrange your own photos. Trust is key here.

2. Get your angles right

Incase you don’t know, never ever stand awkwardly with your body straight at the camera. This rarely looks good on film. Most of us have a particular side that we prefer when taking photos normally, so go with that!

Where you can, try to stand slightly at an angle with one leg in front of the other and slightly pop your hip out #sass And, if in doubt about your position looking right – enlist your girls for a trial shoot at home and make sure you get the perfect stature where you look both natural and sexy if you like, well and truly practiced!

3. Check your makeup

You may have hired a make up artist for the big day, but make-up, no matter how good won’t last all day, especially your lipstick! Make sure one of your bridesmaids has some touch up kit for you close by and check your make up regularly. A few greetings, kisses and sips of champagne is sure to lead to make-up mishaps. Also be aware if anyone else kisses your cheek in bright lipstick! Not a the look you’ll want for your wedding album!

4. Hold your bouquet to the side

Keep it casual and comfortable. Your bouquet is a beautiful addition to you as the bride but not the centre piece. You’ll want to see your silhouette in your beautiful tailored dress. So, either keep your flowers slightly off to the side or let them it hang down to the side.

Tip: Remember your bouquet should not come higher than you lower abdomen!

5. Pull your shoulders back

Most people naturally slouch their spine and this makes shoulders curve. But on film this really shows! Be conscious of your posture at all times throughout the day. As the day goes on, and you’ve been standing in a heavy dress and high heels, carrying a bouquet around for a few hours, you’ll naturally start to slump a little (especially after a glass or two of fizz!)

6. Smile. Smile. Smile

Try to smile naturally. Be confident. Show some teeth. If you’re not a smiley person naturally, take moments throughout the day to remember what an amazing day it is for you, and be grateful – this will naturally bring out the smile and the happiness will shine through. Your photos will look one hundred times better for this little tip.

And don’t forget check your teeth for any lipstick or spinach!

Lots of brides get so wound up in getting everything perfect and making sure everyone else is happy, the day flies by and they didn’t really fully get to enjoy it and take it all in.

Be yourself. Stop trying to control everything. Just enjoy it. And have fun!
